|Dennis Publishing has moved the production of its PC Pro magazine over to PDF using the latest version of Workflow Solutions PageFusion PDF workflow.
Repro house First Impressions, which handles the repro for PC Pro, has been beta-testing PageFusion 3, and has now moved four of the 11 sections of the monthly magazine over to PDF.
The publication will be produced entirely PDF by the end of the year. Sections are sent as individual pages for printing at St Ives Plymouth. IT manager Ron Maslin said: ”Dennis decided to go PDF and wanted a bullet-proof system as part of its long-term aim of going CTP. We needed a system that was 100% PDF, which could also handle copydot and DCS”.
Workflow Solutions managing director Colin Angus said: ”Acrobat Distiller can’t handle separations and the compression settings don’t work reliably - it’s not designed for repro . Our approach to PDF is based on what a repro house wants. Our system is a virtual imagesetter - it RIPs to bitmap to create digital film.” He described the interest which had been generated from printers and repro houses in the £15,000 system as ”impressive”.
